As usually, we (especially I) will not be responsible for any damage to you,
your ego, your stuff, tools, house or anything else you own (or not own).
The things described on this page may be potentially harmful to you and/or
your environment (including other people and/or animals).
Be careful when tinkering around with your instrument. I won't be responsible
for any damage to it.
Thus, I'm not responsible for anything. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
My sister plays clarinet and when she had to play together with other instruments, she found out that she needed another clarinet barrel to tune it correctly. She ordered one but shipping took very long. While the new barrel was on its way, I thought it would be nice to make a variable one. I had some aluminium bars around and decided to use them.
The variable barrel consists of two parts which slide into each other. The length is adjusted by plastic spacers which are clamped by M3 screws. I would have preferred a thread on both parts because adjustment would be easier, but I don't have threading tool for inside threads.
Here are some pictures of the finished barrel:
From my point of view, it doesn't sound different but I'm no clarinet expert.
